Ford quoted Kami, and the quote was the best writing I've ever seen on his site. If he made a policy of linking to everything she posted, it would be a big improvement.

I was going to ask what the fuck language that was but then I might lose my reputation as a know-it-all.  Well, I don't think that's cool. With certain people (see, I keep my promises, jrv) who are never going to amount to anything anyway, that's one thing, but you don't hit a man's pocketbook. Imagine if you will John Goodman beating a car with a crowbar and screaming about what it's like to FUCK A MAN IN THE ASS. But having seen none of what the hell led to this (everything ever posted to the monkey cage appears to be nuked), I have no way of telling.

I agree - the Cage was a really good idea for a number of reasons and will certainly return in one form or another. And a lot of his threads were good - I thought "Ask Christina" was hilarious on many levels.
Unfortunately he lacks judgment and balance. When he gets bored and wants to stir things up he simply doesn't realize that "Ask Christina" is a lot better than the Chico or Lain threads. I think I sent him threats or reminders not to chase off talent every week and came very close twice to suspending his login for Tony to review; this after he was made mod.
The biggest problem though may be the time he takes. He is a very high-maintenance user; Tony probably spends more time on him than everyone else combined. XXXPT isn't exactly a profit center for Jeff and just takes time away from Tony's real job. The need for Tony to spend yet more time on Monkey business, on a weekend morning, may have been the final straw.

To be honest I wouldn't mind seeing the Cage, and the Monkey, return. What I think needs to change is another mod needs to be added to the Cage, a way found for other mods to reduced the amount of time Tony spends on Monkey business, and an understanding by the Monkey that some discretion would be a really good idea. But the Rubicon may have been crossed already.
PS. Smartt might feel otherwise.

I'm not a lawyer, but i did read on another site that mods of mailing lists can be held libel for the naughty actions of their posters....but that was Canadian law, I believe.
I am, but I'm not about to post my Illinois State Bar Association number so take this with a grain of salt and not as legal advise.
For the purposes of law, board owners are publishers (I'm not actually sure about mods - Internet law is largely based on laws that were already on the books, and there's not a simple equivalent of a moderator outside of this medium). However, I'm aware of at least one case where a board owner was acquitted based upon the fact that he didn't require a login and removed the posting promptly. I can't remember the case, but the significant point was that the board owner had no more resposibility than the owner of a bar whose patron writes some unflattering remark about his ex-girlfriend on bathroom wall.
That obviously wouldn't apply to xxxporntalk, where it's known that the board owner does have "agents" stalking about and where quick action could be reasonably expected. It would make a considerable difference however that prompt action was taken to remove the offending material and prevent the offender from "republishing" the damaging material.
The real meat of this isn't libel, which everyone knows is very difficult to win and twice as difficult than that to obtain damages from, but interference in a business relationship. The threshold isn't nearly as high and some sharks are already figuring out that this is much easier than proving libel.
If the posting remained "published," I would have advised Chico to pay me my exhorbitant rate for an hour of my secretary's work writing a really mean letter rather than serving papers. It would probably do the job without paying for a trial.

Alright you maniacs, I removed the thread that caused such a stir. It should be known that moderators on this site are not extensions of the company, they are just people who move posts around. Their opinions should be considered as worthless as everyone elses. Including mine. I restored the Monkey Cage without the offending thread, for now the Monkey is not a moderator, I'll be working that out with the other moderators.
