I just don't understand why they can't issue the VHS & DVD at the same time. I'm waiting for Mary Carey Rules on DVD and they are already releasing on VHS Mary Carey Rules 2?! What's up with that?

I've noticed that most of the better companies don't put out their DVD's until long after the VHS release , which is fine with me . I still have my trusty VCR and would rather watch a good hardcore video than some piece of shit DVD with no stroke value . Good porn is good porn . Companies still release on VHS first due to the rental market. I also believe that some companies think that they will sell more due to double purchases by some fans. The best thing to do is find a kick ass retail store and just rent the new releases on VHS. If they're good, buy them on DVD. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banana.gif" alt="" />

When my VCR broke, I didn't go buy a new one. I already had a DVD so what do I need a VCR for? Tivo does the rest.

I know what you mean,C,for I practically gave a VCR to my live-in cousin(who's always watching it an awful lot),and just only stick to the DVD drive,and DVDs in general,on my PC,since DVDs are all that the companies ever make these days,and video is slowly becoming very scarce(which is a sad reality to admit,since I was there at the beginning boom of video[late 70s/early 80s],and was caught up in the excitement of it,during my teen years)in these times.

But why not rent the DVD, if I like it then buy it. I mean mainstream movies come out at the same time for that reason. However they of course later have special edition dvd's with more features but still - they understand the changing marketplace. I wonder, if VHS rentals are still strong in porn because of the supply of dvds or if it is because of the demand of the consumers?

Again, I wonder how many people rent the tape then don't later buy the dvd because they have lost intrest by the time it comes out.

Good point. Maybe another issue in the porn world is the duplication costs. Does it cost more to duplicate DVD or VHS? As this applies to porn and the many VHS duplicators as well as in-house VHS duplications, I can see how VHS is still the quickest and most affordable medium. But that's purely speculation.
Bottom line though...I have to take note of what Gag Daddy said regarding VHS still moving strongly. With this bit of info, maybe we can assume that a vast majority of men prefer
rentals? I can tell you that given an option - and with all the product that's available - renting is the best way to go if you're just a regular guy looking for a quick fix.

Could be a catch 22. DVD sales lag because people can't get them when they want em. That was my point a bit originally. How do the DVD sales do in the regular movie industry? I would bet that it would eventually mirror the porn industry. However, I'm sure there are more simultaneous releases or if they aren't, there are just so many more added features to the DVD.

Thats from a regional show called HOOK N' SHOOT in Indiana. I like both fighters. Shamrock was on of my early idols and a big reason why I got into MMA. Might it be true that VHS sells better in porn because thats what producers want to put out? It is a lot less expensive to produce them and they do wear out, get fucked up, ect. and have to be replaced.

Personally, I hate the box inserts (plastic or foam). Why not just make a smaller box??? It saves room on the shelf and would be about $0.02 cheaper... and it is all about the money. Hell, it'll add up to about an eight-ball per 10,000 units and that'll keep the talent showing up.
